Writing for corporate websites: Common mistakes and correct wording

Hi. I'm Ogura, a web marketer.

Everyone involved in WEB production, have you ever wondered about the difference between "" and "" when writing a manuscript? This difference is confusing.

Therefore, we have prepared a guideline for writing manuscripts that can be used as reference when you are lost. This time I will introduce the common mistakes and correct expressions in an easy-to-understand manner.

common mistakes and recommendations

  • The alphabet and numbers are entered in half-width unless there is a special intention.
  • As long as there is no special intention, enter round brackets (or columns) in Japanese.
  • The half-width circle symbol ¥ is a model dependent character, so use the full-width circle symbol ¥.
  • Modified numbers 123... cannot be used because it depends on the model.

Arithmetic and Chinese numerals

Numbers are usually written horizontally using arithmetic numbers (123...), but idiomatic phrases (e. g. third parties, decades) use Chinese numbers.

Key Braces and Double Keys

  • Key parentheses are used to describe individual works or songs if they are used in conversation, when they follow words that they want to emphasize.
  • The double key "" is used for further parentheses in "" or to describe the title of a book and album.
Example: Listen to "Beta" from the album Alpha. The serial novel Delta is being serialized in Epsilon magazine, and he said, "Mom told me to take an umbrella because it will rain."

punctuation in parentheses

  • The punctuation point (.) just before Uke is omitted in the bracket of a key.
Example: "It is ... and it is."
  • At the end of a sentence, when an annotation is inserted with parentheses (), punctuation points are struck after the parentheses.
Example: It is (by the way)

Other

  • The three-point reader (...) is used in two series.
    Example: Was that so...
  • Dashi is used as a subtitle or horizontal bar to indicate the duration and range. Hyphens (-) are used for delimiting phone numbers and addresses.

European: quote mark and double quote mark

  • The quartation mark (‘’) is used to indicate the title of an individual piece or song if it goes even further in “”.
  • Double quote mark ("") is used to indicate the title of a book or album when following a conversation.
Listen to ‘beta’ from the album “alpha”.

instead

How was it? This time, I introduced a common mistake and correct expression of the manuscript. With this, I think that you can solve any problem immediately if you are wondering whether to use "" or '".

When writing a manuscript in corporate production, please refer to it by all means.
