Design guided by intuition and logic, to communicate more clearly: Art director Sato's past and future

Hello, gentlemen.
I am Kawashima, a front-end engineer who has been in the company for three months. I’m quite used to doing business, but I still have a new position. There are many things that feel fresh, especially when it comes to members working together at non-sta.

Therefore, I would like to introduce a new non-sta member from this month one by one. The first is about Akita Sato, who has been working with the president Takasaki since the establishment of Nonsta.

Sato's work

Music and design; the relationship that overlaps with each other.

Sato is an art director, designer and band. euphoria He is also a bassist.
Its duties range from a wide variety, but the main thing I have in mind is design.
For me as an engineer, the world of design is a very unknown area.
When I asked Sato again, he said to me that “design and music are very close.

"Like music, design has theories, rhythms and inflections.
in order to better communicate what we want to convey, while looking at the overall balance
It is the idea of what to deliver using both senses and logic.

That's what Sato thinks of design -- it is true - that any design, just beautiful and cool may make it look like music without a grudge.
As a bassist, Sato is in a position to balance the entire performance and I felt that when I heard this story, I saw only a little bit of the background which cherishes both music and design as well as the philosophy behind his design.

Hear your voice before it becomes a voice, Art Director.

In addition, I think that Sato’s good listeners are also giving power to his design.
As an art director, Sato interacts with a lot of customers every day, and not only does he listen to questions that are pleasantly answered but also can't be said well yet. I think this is where Sato's design is described as being close to what the customer wants to convey.

That's why, according to Takasaki's soft ear-punching, they often get close with customers beyond their work limits.

Sato’s day of remote work.

By the way, there may be some people who have an impression that having such a wide variety of jobs is busy.
When I asked him, he said that his current working hours are “about eight hours a day”: after the office moved to Xi Jin, he often works in an office until around 10 o'clock to 17 o’clock and then after dinner at home he does about two hours of work since his son fell asleep.
He also told me about this episode.

"I'll get a job call until about 19 o'clock."

-- that's right. Oh? But at 19 o'clock...

"Yeah. I'm at home, but my son is still awake ... why do you want to answer the phone? That voice came in as he could."

-- (Laughter)

If you think it’s a regular office and call me, I might be surprised.
(There is also an article detailing Sato's time schedule, including his son’s episode.) 2014 edition / 2017 edition here too, please!

We will continue to take a path that we have been able to walk carefully.

Sato has a career in design for nearly 10 years, including during his freelance career.
Is there anything you would like to do in the future?

"In fact, I don't really feel like 'what do you want to do?'"

That's what Sato continues to say.

"More than that, I feel more strongly that 'I want to meet the purpose of our customers with design.
I always hope that we can help people get closer to what they want to build and deliver a better message through design -- and hopefully make designs that are comfortable for the sensibilities of visitors to websites."

I was impressed by the stoicness while making a reconciliation.
Behind the website that we interact with every day, there are people who want to tell us something about it. It creates a form where messages can be understood as straight and unobstructed as possible. If you do so, make sure they’re comfortable for those who receive them.
I think that is the design of Sato, which supports Nonsta’s web production.

instead

How was it?
I would be happy if we could tell you a little about Sato, who has many opportunities to interact directly with customers.

Since there are still many charms of Sato (laughing about travel episodes from various countries and ice-cream topics), if you have a chance to talk with Sato, please ask me.

I'll tell you about the members next month. Please look forward to them!
